What is it, and how does it happen?

This is important and should be read by everyone connected to the food industry. Strong words are used!

Most cross-contamination occurs in the kitchen. However, have you ever thought of your outer packaging? Clearly some supermarkets haven’t, or are unable to configure their store layout – why would you place gluten-free products next to (and touching in some cases) BREAD?!

Some supermarkets have the gluten free section next to the fresh bakery, which is equally as bad. As coeliacs, we must wash the packaging to stop any contamination coming into our home just in case there is any flour of breadcrumbs on the packaging. Oh, and don’t forget your carrier bag might be ‘infected’ too.

Supermarkets, please do better!
